The great international Wine Gala: WINE AWARDS 2013 at Schloss Bensberg

The festively decorated halls of the “Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg” in Bergisch Gladbach will serve as the magnificent backdrop when Der Feinschmecker presents its coveted WINE AWARDS on Saturday, March 23, 2013. The prestigious awards will be assigned to top winemakers from all over the world on the eve of the opening of ProWein, the international trade fair for wines and spirits taking place in Düsseldorf. The wine gala with champagne reception and awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a walking dinner prepared by the top chefs belonging to the Althoff Hotel Collection, a tasting session with the wines of the prize winners and a fireworks display in the courtyard. Later in the evening, a gala ball will be the hosted in the great ballroom.

The nominees for the 11th WINE AWARDS:

Three young vintners, all of whom have drawn attention to themselves with their excellent wines, have been nominated by the Feinschmecker jury for the “Newcomer of the Year” WINE AWARD. Although all three deserve to win the coveted award, only one can be named “Newcomer of the Year” (from left to right): Arianna Occhipinti, Agricola Occhipinti, Vittoria, Sicily, Italy; Markus Huber, Winery Markus Huber, Reichersdorf, Traisental, Austria; and Johannes Thörle, Winzerhof Thörle, Saulheim, Rhine-Hesse, Germany. The jury's final decision will be announced at “Schloss Bensberg” on March 23, 2013.

WINE AWARDS in six other categories will also be announced that same evening: A German winemaker will receive the accolade for the “Wine Collection of the Year”, and in internationally renowned colleague will be honoured for distinguishing himself as “Winemaker of the Year”. The Feinschmecker will bestow the “Award for Friends” upon a group of winemakers whose members have shown particular commitment and dedication to the quality of wines and the reputation of viniculture in their region. The WINE AWARD for Lifetime Achievement will go to a famous winemaker well-known far beyond the borders of his home country; the jury will award a prize in the category “Legends” to a wine that has achieved an iconic status. And finally, a public figure or a person from the world of culture and the arts who has shown a particular passion for fine wine and culinary savoir vivre will be awarded the honorary title of “Wine Gourmet of the Year”. The WINE AWARDS ceremony will be hosted by the television presenters Anne Gesthuysen and Frank Plasberg.
