DER FEINSCHMECKER invites you to its WINE GALA at the “Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg”
Make a note in your calendar: On Saturday, March 22 2014, DER FEINSCHMECKER will be presenting its coveted WINE AWARDS for the twelfth year. This prestigious distinction is awarded to top personalities from the international world of wine. And you are invited to join us (see below) for the prize-giving ceremony at Schloss Bensberg in Bergisch Gladbach on the eve of the official opening of the ProWein trade fair taking place in Düsseldorf. The wine gala, which is being hosted in the festively decorated salons and halls of the “Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg” begins at 6 p.m. with a champagne reception and awards ceremony. This will be followed by a walking dinner prepared by the top chefs of the Althoff Hotel Collection, a tasting session featuring the wines of the prize winners and a fireworks display in the courtyard. Later in the evening, a gala ball will take place in the great ballroom.
The FEINSCHMECKER jury has nominated three young vintners whose outstanding wines have attracted much attention for the WINE AWARD “Newcomer of the Year”: Daniel Jiménez Landi, Bodega Jiménez Landi, Méntrida (Spain), Christoph Wachter, Wachter-Wiesler vineyard, Deutsch Schützen, Southern Burgenland (Austria) and Xavier Weisskopf, Domaine Le Rocher des Violettes, Montlouis, Loire (France). The jury’s final decision will be announced at “Schloss Bensberg” on March 22 2014.
Apart from the “Newcomer of the Year”, WINE AWARDS will also be presented in seven other categories: A German winemaker will receive the accolade for the “Wine Collection of the Year”, and an internationally renowned colleague will be honoured for distinguishing himself as the “Winemaker of the Year”. THE FEINSCHMECKER will bestow the “Award for Friends” upon a group of winemakers whose members have shown particular commitment and dedication to the quality of wines and reputation of viniculture in their region. The WINE AWARD for Lifetime Achievement will go to a famous winemaker well-known far beyond the borders of his home country, and the jury will award a prize in the category “Legends” to a wine that has achieved an iconic status. For the first time, the “Award of Honour” will go to an author in recognition of his contribution to wine culture. And finally, a public figure or a person from the world of culture and the arts who has shown a particular passion for fine wine and culinary savoir vivre will be awarded the honorary title of “Wine Gourmet of the Year”. The awards ceremony will this year be hosted by the vivacious German television personality Barbara Schöneberger.
